Oh! mighty “Peepal” tree,
We bow to thee,
none is as wise as thee.
Since, ages you have given
-
enlightenment, wisdom and
vision.
Your one pious touch,
can heal a heart, hurt so
much.
The amaranthine blessings you shower,
give life an unending
power.
Saints meditate beneath
your shade,
gaining strength to wade.
King of trees you are,
like the pole star, among all
stars.
We bow to thee,
Oh! mighty “Peepal” tree.
Ficus religiosa is called “Peepal” in Hindi language.
It is a sacred tree in Hinduism and is worshipped all over India.

Is this the tree from which twigs are used for teeth?
Trees are impressive symbols and I think every culture has it's own version or iconic tree...this tree is beautiful with it's early beginnings and story.
I like how you focused on the tree and stressed its wisdom and how it can inspire us, Vandana! A very mystical poem.
smiles...trees were here well before us and well past...they def carry more knowledge than we...and i think there is much we could learn of a tree....firmly rooted ever reaching up....i would like to meet this tree...
a sacred tree with strong roots..I enjoyed your poem as you sang the tree's song..beautiful..
This poem has almost a meditative tone to it. A tree is such a strong symbol, and the 'peepal' tree sounds like a worthy one!
Trees are an example of stoic strength.
I love the imagery and symbolism of your sacred tree ~ The healing, blessings & wisdom ~ Well done Vandana ~
I love your poem...it speaks my language...and beautifully too. I'm wondering if this is the same tree that we call a banyan here. They are magnificent type of ficus. My favorite tree.
Appears to be another version of the Tree of Life; very nice use of the Khedekar artwork, infusing it with philosophy, history, mythos; cool.
Yes - the wisdom and completeness of tress - I wrote about trees too in this prompt. Soulful poem.
I enjoyed this so much:) Mighty tree give wisdom to me.
How lovely. I am so moved by the spiritual aspects of nature, trees in particular. Thank you for sharing the peepal tree with us.
Well, every part of this tree is sacred for us and usually we do not cut or even pluck a leaf fro mthis tree. It is considered as God's tree.
banyan tree is different.
I love that the tree gives "enlightenment, wisdom and vision." Cool.
Lord Buddha attained enlightenment under the " Bodhi Tree" another name for Peepal tree.
nice... have to google the Peepal tree... would be interesting to see how it looks... and there def. is comfort in the soothing shade of a tree
Such a great tree.. I find it interesting that so many religions find the holiness in trees... in old Norse it was the ash tree...
A charming write I love interesting facts on different cultures :)) I too love your tree through your words:)
Many trees are so ancient and lovely and do provide a great place to meditate for sure.
A very beautiful poem!
The faithful have a lot to fall back, on a tree. It provides the solace one craves for! Nicely Vandana!
Hank
such beautiful lines...i'm reading it again and again...there's a mighty peepal tree in front of our school gate...
and how it invites birds....
I have never heard of the Peepal tree, so I'm not sure if I am reading it correctly, but I read it to sound like "people." Which lead me to interpret this poem about how we are all a part of nature and the divine. It gave me a very nice feeling.
Lovely......trees are precious....loved this poem...
